TORONTO -- Toronto Marlies coach Steve Spott challenged his leadership group following an embarrassing 4-3 loss Saturday afternoon to the Rochester Americans. Dede Westbrook Jaguars Jersey . The Marlies responded Sunday, as Sam Carrick led the way with two goals in a 3-2 win over the Utica Comets that clinched Torontos third straight North Division title. "I think if its necessary, we can take the criticism, we can live with that," said alternate captain Korbinian Holzer. "I think thats part of the business. Im fine with it. Were all grown ups." Kenny Ryan had the other goal for the Marlies (42-22-6). Rookie defenceman Eric Knodel picked up his first two AHL points. Garret Sparks made 23 saves for his 10th win of the season, helping ensure the Marlies will finish no lower than the third seed in the Western Conference. Toronto became just the sixth team in history to clinch a division title in three consecutive years. "Im very proud of our whole staff," Spott said. "All of my support staff, the coaches, obviously Piero (Greco) our goaltending coach, our trainers, our equipment people. Everybodys worked so hard. "Not a lot of people gave our hockey club much of an opportunity to make to even make the playoffs, nonetheless win the division. Very proud of our group." With goaltender Joe Cannata pulled for an extra attacker, Cal OReilly got Utica to within one with 43.5 seconds remaining. But Toronto held on for the win this time. On Saturday, Toronto allowed two goals in a 15 second span during the final minute of play to fall to the Rochester Americans 4-3. Pascall Pelletier had the other goal for Utica (31-30-9) while Cannata made 33 saves in the loss. The win helped Toronto avoid losing its third straight for just the second time this season. The Marlies improve to 3-2-0 in the season series with one game remaining between the two clubs. "We know when we dont have our best game," said Holzer. "Its about us pulling the group together, keeping everybody accountable and I think the whole team did a good job today. We responded to the last two (losses) especially defensively, we did a better job." With Comets forward Alexandre Grenier in the box serving a double-minor for high sticking, Carrick scored on the rebound off a Knodel point shot for his 10th goal of the season, giving Toronto a 3-1 lead at 7:40 of the third. The Marlies scored twice on their first three shots of the game. Carrick opened the scoring at 3:06 getting a couple of chances at his own rebound before beating Cannata for his ninth of the season. With his assist on the goal, Knodel picked up his first career AHL point. Ryan made it 2-0 backhanding a shot over the shoulder of Cannata at 4:49. The Comets got on the board at 16:59 of the second period, on a power play, as Pelletier put a Brandon DeFazio feed past a sprawling Sparks for his 18th of the season. Utica is five points back of Rochester for the final playoff spot in the Western Conference. Toronto sets out on their final road trip of the season -- a five-game, eight-day trip beginning Friday in Rochester, N.Y. The Marlies and Comets play for a sixth and final time this season on April 18 in Utica, N.Y. Notes: Goaltender Drew MacIntyre, who was with the Maple Leafs on emergency recall, was reassigned to the Marlies Sunday morning. MacIntyre was a healthy scratch as Christopher Gibson backed-up Sparks. Marlies forward Fabrice Herzog made his professional debut on a line with Carter Ashton and Greg McKegg while defenceman Zach Yuen made his AHL debut paired with T.J. Brennan. Cam Robinson Jersey . Hawkins severely sprained his left ankle while making a diving catch during training camp and went on injured reserve with a designation he could return midway through the season. He was back at practice Wednesday. Dawuane Smoot Womens Jersey . Mika Zibanejad and Jason Spezza scored in the shootout to lead the Ottawa Senators to a 2-1 victory over Nashville on Saturday night.NEW YORK -- Brian McCann was far from panic mode. He was hitting the ball well, and figured positive results would follow. Still, he enjoyed seeing his drives wind up in the seats instead of someones glove. McCann put an emphatic end to his season-opening slump, hitting his first two home runs for the New York Yankees to help beat John Lackey and the Boston Red Sox 7-4 Saturday. "I was pleased about my at-bats today," McCann said. Carlos Beltran, Alfonso Soriano and Kelly Johnson also connected as the Yankees scored all their runs on homers. Lackey was tagged for a career-high four home runs in 5 2-3 innings. New York has won two of three in a series that wraps up Sunday night. A.J. Pierzynski hit his first home run for the Red Sox. After striking out in the first inning and dropping his batting average to .158, McCann quickly reversed his fortunes. The seven-time All-Star who left Atlanta to sign an $85 million, five-year deal with the Yankees led off the fourth with a liner into the first row of the second deck in right field. McCann hurried around the bases, and fans were still cheering when Soriano followed with his third home run of the week. Beltran opened the sixth with a double and McCann homered to right-centre. It was the catchers 10th career multihomer game. "Ive been seeing the ball pretty well to be hitting in the hundreds," McCann said. As for any concerns about a slow start, he said, "I dont look at it that way." The Red Sox have been shifting on McCann during this series, moving an extra infielder onto the right side once they get a strike on him. Facing Lackey for the first time, McCann made moot any shift. "Hes hit the ball better than his numbers indicated," Yankees manager Joe Girardi said. "I was not really concerned about it. I know hes going to hit," he said. Girardi said he assumed the short right-field fence and the jet stream that carries the ball in that direction would benefit the leefty-hitting McCann. Leonard Fournette Youth Jersey. "It showed up today," Girardi said. Hiroki Kuroda (2-1) pitched into the seventh, and reliever Matt Thornton gave up Mike Carps two-run single that made it 6-4. With runners at the corners, Carp was caught stealing for the third out. Shawn Kelley pitched a perfect ninth for his second save. Lackey (2-1) threw plenty of strikes, but gave up 10 hits. He walked none, fanned six and missed a chance to get off to a 3-0 start for the first time in his career. Jacoby Ellsbury bunted for a two-out single in the first and Beltran homered on an 0-2 pitch right down the middle. Lackey was already stalking toward the plate to get a new ball from the umpire before Beltran reached second base. "I just left it over the plate. It wasnt a very good pitch, up in the zone. One of those Id like to have back, for sure," Lackey said. Johnson hit his third homer in the eighth. NOTES: Soriano had played only one inning in right field during his career -- in the 2003 World Series, in fact -- before starting there in this game. He made an error on the first chance he got, dropping a soft fly by Xander Bogaerts. ... David Ortiz has reached safely in 25 straight games against the Yankees, the longest active streak vs. New York. He got one hit, and is 11 for 20 lifetime facing Kuroda. ... The Yankees hit back-to-back homers for the first time since last June 6. ... Red Sox CF Grady Sizemore didnt start, a day after his big three-run homer beat the Yankees. He missed the last two seasons because of injuries, and manager John Farrell doesnt want to overuse him. ... Yankees SS Derek Jeter got a day off. ... Yankees 1B Mark Teixeira (strained right hamstring) said his recovery is going well. Hes eligible to come off the DL next weekend and Girardi said hed be surprised if Teixeira isnt back on time. ... Red Sox LHP Felix Doubront (1-1, 9.00 ERA) is set to face RHP Ivan Nova (1-1, 8.68) in the series finale. Cheap NFL Jerseys Cheap NFL Jerseys China Cheap Jerseys From China Cheap NFL Jerseys Authentic Wholesale Jerseys ChinaCheap NFL Jerseys China NFL Cheap Jerseys ' ' '
